Amazon Updates Kindle Firmware

Just caught this on the Twitter feed from @thurrott:

Amazon Updates Kindle 2: Now with 85 Percent Better Battery Life and Native PDF Support.

littlekindlePretty promising and I’m waiting for the update to come down now.  Here’s how to update your Kindle 2 firmware:

  1. Check to make sure you don’t already have the latest firmware.
    • Select “Settings” from the Home Menu
    • Check your version number in the lower left corner.  2.3 is the latest.
  2. If you don’t have the latest/greatest, then turn on the wireless on your Kindle, and let it sit there.  Amazon will push it down the pipe onto your reader automatically.
  3. If you’re not that patient type, just go grab the file and install it yourself via that trusty USB cable.  Click this to get the U.S. file…

Anything I may have missed you can catch here from Amazon.

UPDATE 11.25.09:

I lost patience waiting for the update to magically appear so I downloaded the file, hooked up the Kindle via a USB cable, and ran the update.  It took about 10 minutes and was painless.  At first glance, there are no eye-popping changes (but I did notice some new screen savers).  This week, I’ll throw a couple PDFs at it and see what happens.
